It's got nothing to do with the vorsprung durch technik you know . . .
In the words of the great Blur, ‘It’s got nothing to do with the vorsprung durch technik, you know’ and in the world of digital marketing it’s important to understand if you have just hired a web designer or a proper digital marketing business. Many small digital agencies are run by people who originate from a technical background and not surprisingly their comfort zone and focus often tends to be technical.
Of course technical competency is a key part of any digital project (so there does need to be some technik), but it should underpin a project rather than be the focus of it. Digital marketing is marketing first and digital second and as such the key tenets of marketing still apply.
Things to consider when choosing your digital marketing partner (in addition to their technical competency):-
Do they understand the 4 p's of your business – without at least a high level understanding of your business, your agency will not be able to promote it. This includes not only, understanding what you do but how you differentiate your product or service from your competitors. Understanding of the market, tone of voice and competition are all key before embarking an any new digital project. Remember, the 4 p’s still apply and your agency needs to take the time and effort to properly understand them.
Project success criteria – What does success look like for your project and does your agency understand what the goals and KPI’s are? How will success be measured and monitored and how will this flow back into the project?
Content – Who will be creating the content. Is your agency providing the delivery framework only or will they also be creating the content? This might be the initial content for a website or it might be a long running campaign to create content for social channels, blogs and individual campaigns.
These are just a few of the considerations and by no means an exhaustive list. To find out more about how The Business Boosters approach a product, get in touch on our website www.thebusinessboosters.co.uk.
